If you are a person that doesn't know how to hold space for multiple truths at once or you don't know how to hold multiple emotions for multiple things happening at once, don't read. This is a nuanced take.
I'm still reading up and trying to learn more on this subject matter but currently, I'm not a big fan of generative AI because it allows people to steal from real artists and not compensate them properly when majority of them aren't paid well. I also don't like the negative impact it has on our environment, considering how fucked the environment already is.
As someone who is a person stuck in a toxic home environment and have found themselves in multiple toxic situations, I can see how AI can help in determining what's happening and figuring out how you can get out of it. Being in such situations could be really isolating. Google could be of no help, too, since its search algorithm downgraded a long time ago. Oftentimes, under those conditions, there's no one you can turn to. So, I don't really blame people for wanting to turn to AI. But then again, this is a problem that can be solved by people - if they only cared enough.
I also don't think every app needs AI. These days, it seems like every Silicon Valley bro and co wants to slap AI onto their SaaS to make it look shiny. Majority of the time, It doesn't even make sense because it doesn't add on to their product's function, especially in areas where human interaction is needed. From the opinion of a humble former process analyst, I think AI is most helpful when it could do the following:
Note: Just because you can make it, it doesn't mean you have to or need to.
The crux of my opinion is creation is for humans and AI is merely a tool. It is what you make of it.
However, for me, if you proclaim yourself an artist and you rely too much on AI for creating[^1]; you lose what makes your creation good. When you create something, a piece of your soul is embedded within it. If AI, something not ensouled, creates something for you and you share it to the world, you lose a big piece of what makes people relate to you. You lose the chance to connect with another. AI creation cannot touch your heart in a way it would have if it was a creation made by a human being - a being with a piece of the divine. Which brings me to my next point!
I don't like how reliant the kids have become on AI for things like critical thinking and completing schoolwork. As a former corporate Instructional Designer, I don't agree with how the process of learning[^2] has been handed over to the machines[^3] and is being sold as "The heavy-lifting being done. All you have to do is read" when said "heavy-lifting" is how the information gets retained in your brain. By the way, heavy-lifting = note-taking and taking the time to explore the text.
